1. Portable charger or wall charger?
Most EVs come with a portable charger that plugs into a suitable socket — enough for overnight top-ups. A wall-mounted charger (wallbox) is faster, safer for daily use and often has an app to schedule charging and track units.

Home chargers are usually about 3.3 kW or 7.4 kW on a normal single-phase connection. A faster charger only helps if your car can accept that power — check your car's on-board charger rating before paying more.

Most new electric cars in India use the Type 2 connector for AC charging. Confirm your car's connector, and choose a cable long enough to reach the charging port from where you park.

A charger runs for hours at high current. Insist on proper earthing, a correctly rated cable and MCB, and an RCD/RCCB (earth-leakage protection). Outdoor or open parking needs a weather-proof (IP-rated) charger and enclosure.

You will usually need your society's permission, a cable route from your meter (or a separate meter) and sometimes a higher sanctioned load. A qualified electrician or the charger company can check this.
