5. Visitor Statistics and Login Records

• Whether you have visited before, and how many times.
• If you are logged in, which account the visit belongs to.

What we record when you log in: the time, whether the login succeeded, the email address entered, the login method, your IP address, approximate location, internet provider and device. Failed attempts are recorded too, including the email address that was tried, so that we can spot attempts to break into accounts.

The cookie: we set one first-party cookie named pol_vid. It contains a random code that lets us recognise a returning browser. It holds no personal information, is not used for advertising and is not shared. It expires after two years, and you can delete it at any time in your browser settings.

Why: to see which pages are useful, how people find us, and to protect accounts against misuse. Who can see it: only the site's administrators.

How long we keep it: detailed visit records and IP addresses are deleted automatically after 90 days. After that we keep only daily totals (such as the number of visitors per day), which cannot identify anyone. Login records keep the time, approximate location and device, but their IP address is deleted after the same 90 days.
